General FAQ's
Can I Be Seen As A Public Patient In The Private Rooms?
To receive treatment at a public hospital, you will need your GP to refer you directly to the Orthopaedic Outpatient Clinic. Unfortunately, having a private consultation will not expedite your appointment at the public clinic.
How Long After My Consultation Can I Have Surgery?
Depending on the type of surgery you need, how long the procedure is and whether we need to order any equipment, you can usually have surgery 1-6 weeks following consultation.
What Should I Bring To My Appointment?
Please bring your referral, Medicare card, health fund card and any information on previous imaging.
Can I Still Have An Appointment If I Do Not Have Hospital Insurance?
Please call our rooms to discuss (07) 2101 2650.
Do You See WorkCover/DVA/Third Party Claims?
Yes, we do.
Consultation FAQ's
Do I Need A GP Referral?
Yes. For you to obtain a rebate from Medicare for a portion of the consultation fees, you will need a referral. If you proceed to needing surgery, we will need this referral for your health fund to cover hospitalisation. It’s advisable to first discuss your condition with your GP before scheduling an appointment. They can ensure you’ve had necessary diagnostic imaging (e.g. x-ray, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound) done beforehand.
What Happens At My First Appointment?
The surgeon will review your referral letter and all your imaging, take a thorough medical history from you, conduct a physical examination, and may perform additional tests. Following this, they will discuss both surgical and non-surgical treatment options for your condition. Together, you will decide on the best course of action.
How Long Is An Initial Appointment?
Please allow 30 – 45 minutes.
Fees & Charges
What Are The Consultation Fees?
Consultation fees for a new patient are $240. Review appointments are $140.
Will My Health Fund Cover Any Of The Consultation Fee?
You can claim a portion of this back from Medicare. Your health fund does not cover any rebates for outpatient visits.
What Are The Out-Of-Pocket Costs For Surgery?
If you are privately insured, the out-of-pocket fee ranges depending on the surgery you need. After your consultation, the surgeon will provide you with an item number. The staff will be able to generate a quote for you.
